Overview

This video shows you how you can beat Ken, using Ken, on Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. It was recorded on the arcade version of the game, on the hardest difficulty and fighting Ken as the last opponent, just before Balrog.

Ken, at the first sight, seems erratic and impredictable. However, he just has more variety on his behavior. He may launch a lot of Hadokens like Ryu, stuck jumping forward and backwards (waiting you to get near and hit you with a flying kick) and attack you with Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyakus. So, the deal here is to apply a counter according to each of his routines.

We can note that:

  • When he gets stucked jumping, you shouldn’t try to take him with another flying kick. It’s almost certain that you will get hit. Try to get at a safe and enough distance to give a Shoryuken;
  • If he tries to Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku you, just crouch and use the strong punch. It’s like an uppercut;
  • He is more vulnerable to Hadokens than Ryu;
  • He will counter your air attacks with Shoryukens if you jump towards him at the wrong time;
  • He can change his behavior even more. The video just lists the most common ones, with the Hadoken thing being the main. When he does that, you know, it’s time to hit him with a flying kick and a crouching one. Just like we do against Sagat and Ryu.

Having this in mind, you already can deal a good amount of damage to him. This strategy works playing with Ryu and Sagat as well, with some adaptations, of course.
