Overview

Dragon Spirit – The New Legend is the NES port of the Namco’s vertical scrolling shoot ’em up originally released in 1987 to the arcades. In this game, is up to the heroic warrior Amul to transform himself into a blue dragon and go and rescue the princess.

Dragon Spirit consists of nine stages where players fly around and destroy everything in their path. Much like in Xevious, action takes place on both sky and ground, and the dragon has one type of attack for each plane.

The NES port has a somewhat altered plot and some new gameplay elements, such as a new initial stage, where if the player survives, the game continues in a “Blue Dragon” game much like the original arcade version. If the player fails to clear this initial stage in one life, an easy mode called “Gold Dragon” begins, skipping about half the game’s stages, giving the player extra hit points, and features a different ending.

This NES version, which is here ready to be played online, without the need of downloading of installations, was developed by Namco, published by Bandai and released in 1990 to both NES and Famicom consoles.
