Escape The Maze (ETM): Xmas Edition

Escape The Maze (ETM): Xmas Edition is an independent, retro action game, inspired by titles such as Adventure (1980) and others from the past, where the objective is to escape rooms where any contact with monsters is fatal. It was developed by Yan’s Productions and initially released on December 24, 2022.

As its title might raise suspicions, this is also the Christmas edition of the fun and challenging Escape The Maze (ETM), which maintains the same skill- and puzzle-based approach, albeit shorter and with Legman facing dangers in settings decorated for the best time of year.

Published by Yan himself, with versions for Windows and Linux, Escape The Maze (ETM): Xmas Edition is essentially a standalone mini-expansion of the original game, with remixed levels, new music, and no boss fights. It’s also completely free and portable.

Introduction

Ho Ho Ho… Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Today we bring to you a very nice gift, a standalone campaign for our previous game, Escape The Maze (ETM).

It’s has:

• New Soundtrack (made by Bernachá)
• New Ending
• New Stages with different Layouts
• New Enemy Sprites and Decorations

Due to time restrictions, we’ve decide to make this a little bit shorter than the main game, with only one world and no boss fights, but we hope that you will have some fun with our Xmas Campaign.

Controls and instructions

• Arrow Keys/WASD – Move Legman
• Left Mouse Button – Start the game
• Right Mouse Button – Skip the intro
• ENTER – Pause
• The game has two modes: standard and Hard. In Hard, you have a limited number of lives per match, meaning that every time a monster touches you, you lose a life, instead of restarting the room, as in normal mode. In this mode, you can also collect extra lives, which can even add more puzzle value to the gameplay.

Trivia

• Escape The Maze (ETM): Christmas Edition was developed with Construct 2.
• This was the last game the author worked on using this engine.
• According to the author, the Christmas ETM doesn’t have a boss fight because this is a time for union and to be jolly! But it was also due to lack of time that the game is shorter than the original, as mentioned in the introduction.
