Overview

Cyborg Justice (Robot Wreckage) is a side-scrolling beat ’em up were you customize and control a sentient cyborg to fight hordes of other cybernetic beings in a mysterious planet that seems to be controlled by the machines (but in fact is ruled by a huge brain). It was developed by Novotrade Software (Appaloosa Interactive), published by Sega and released in 1993 to Genesis/Mega Drive. Play Cyborg Justice with us, ready to be run online, in your browser (HTML5), without the need to install anything.

In this brawler with eight-way movement, the player fights to escape a mining colony after having his brain unwillingly transplanted into a mechanical body. Before starting the action, you can customize the character by choosing between different arms, torsos and legs, totaling up to 216 combinations that directly influence the combat style. During the stages, it is possible to tear off and assimilate parts of defeated enemies — such as special arms, legs and even the torso — to recover energy or gain new abilities.

The game offers two modes: Arcade, with a solo or cooperative campaign, and Duel, for PvP combat or against the CPU. Over the course of five stages divided into three parts each, the player faces traps, challenging bosses and enemies with constantly changing parts, requiring constant adaptation. The difficulty system ranges from Relaxed to Brutal, and there are mechanics that encourage the strategic use of parts, such as pneumatic legs to jump chasms or heavy legs to resist magnetic traps. The game rewards fast action — anyone who takes too long to advance gets a rocket to the head.

Plot

You are an agent of the Galactic Unity Agency (G.U.A.) on a routine deep-space patrol when your ship is damaged by a meteor storm and crash-lands on a planet controlled by the sinister Cydrek Federation. Your body is destroyed, but your brain is salvaged and transplanted into a cybernetic shell, enslaved like the rest of your crew to build weapons for Cydrek’s growing army. However, something goes wrong — your memory wipe fails, your consciousness resurfaces, and you begin to understand the truth. With the Federation preparing for war against the G.U.A., you become the one rogue element in their plans. Armed with your new mechanical body, you must battle your way through hostile facilities and cybernetic foes to confront the massive central brain that rules the Cydrek empire — and stop a war before it begins.

Controls

  • Arrow Keys – (D-Pad) Move
  • X – (Button A) Special actions
  • Z – (Button C) Hold it to blocks attacks (won’t work against rockets or lasers)
  • S – (Button B) Punch
  • Press B to punch an enemy sneaking up behind you — kind of like that backhand Batman throws at a thug in that 1998 movie.
  • Shoulder BashPress and hold A until your robot charges forward with a shoulder slam.
  • Special AttackPress A, then press and hold A again. This activates the special ability of your main arm — the one you chose at the start of the game. Each arm has a unique power, and some can be aimed using the D-pad while holding A. You can even use specials while crouching.
  • Leg Special – The Somersault Legs, Tank Legs, and Pneumatic Legs each have special moves that can be activated by pressing C twice.
  • Enter – (Start) (Pause)
  • Attention – these controls are default for the Player 1. Hover your mouse into the lower part of the screen and a control bar will show up. You can set the controls in there, for both players, if you want.
