A Very Hairy Christmas is an indie Christmas-themed platformer starring Mr Hair, a character who has appeared in several ZX Spectrum titles, and whose mission here is to face off against a deranged, impostor Santa. The game was developed by Langford Productions and was initially released on November 10, 2024.
The story unfolds after this fake Santa kidnaps a family and brings the store’s decorations and other items to life, turning them into enemies that Mr Hair can defeat by throwing snowballs. Interestingly, in addition to its platforming stages, the game also features mini-games and segments inspired by old-school classics such as Pac-Man, Asteroids, and PSSST.
Published by Langford Productions itself and available for free on Windows, A Very Hairy Christmas offers high-definition graphics and a pleasant festive atmosphere, making it one of those games that should be played in the best season of the year. It also marks Mr Hair’s debut on PC.

Story
Whilst out Christmas shopping, Mr Hair’s family are snatched away by a deranged department store Santa who intends to use them to plump up his beard. Mr Hair must chase him through the store and rescue each member of his family from his evil clutches.
Even thought he’s not the real Father Christmas, this nasty piece of work has learned a bit of magic along the way and has brought to life many of the store’s festive items and set them against our hero. Fortunately Mr Hair can see most of them off with a snowball or two, but with seven departments to get through, level bosses and a number of surprises along the way things aren’t going to be easy.
Controls
Mr Hair can be controlled with a standard gamepad, or with the following keys:
- Q or Arrow Up – Up or jump
- A or Arrow Down – Down
- O or Arrow Left – Left
- P or Arrow Right – Right
- M, Space Bar or CTRL – Fire snowball
- H – Pause
Instructions
To play, download the file, extract it to a new folder, and you’re ready to go. This game has undergone minimal testing, and the author asks that you report any problems or bugs you encounter (I think this can be done on Itch.io itself).
