Overview
This video, originally published in the Gaming Room‘s channel in November 13, 2025, features the gameplay conducted in the arcade version of NAM-1975, the challenging Cabal-style rail shooter from 1990 developed by SNK, and some of it’s cutscenes. The match spent a shameless and ridiculous number of credits, but its good enough to show this game, that follows two American soldiers (up to two simultaneously) who seem to be suffering from post-traumatic stress as they’re sent back to Vietnam to rescue a scientist and his daughter. During their mission, they’ll face waves of diverse enemies and cross various war-torn locations, all probably inspired by the best war movies of the 1970s and 1980s.
The protagonists, Silver and Brown, can move left and right, perform backflips to dodge enemy fire, and attack with machine guns (unlimited ammo) and grenades (limited). You can also pick up new weapons like flamethrowers and even get help from blonde hostages — if you manage to rescue them, of course. Bonus points appear quite often but can easily lure you into dangerous situations. The final battle against Dr. Mucky’s laser cannon is infamous for not allowing continues — and that’s exactly where my run ended.
Featuring colorful graphics, plenty of variety, responsive controls, and a simple yet engaging storyline, NAM-1975 was generally well-received by critics and the market — despite its sometimes maddening difficulty (at least in the arcade version). Its success likely justified the game’s later ports to several platforms, including Neo Geo, Virtual Console, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, iOS, and Android.
So now it’s your turn: check out this nostalgic recording of one of the many Cabal-inspired shooters from the golden age of arcades. It’s great for revisiting a classic or discovering it for the first time, if that’s your case. Then, leave your thoughts in the comments and share with your friends who also love retrogaming!
Cheers!
