Clock Tower: Remake

All that remains is to explore the mansion to find an escape route...

Updated in July 7th, 2025.

Clock Tower: Remake, also known as Clock Tower: Remake Demo, is a short fan-made recreation of the 1995 Super Nintendo horror point-and-click adventure Clock Tower, which was never released outside Japan. It was developed by Stefano Cagnani (Steven Games Studio) and initially released on November 11, 2024.

Available for free on Windows, Clock Tower: Remake is visually impressive and well-crafted, faithfully recreating the original’s eerie atmosphere. The Barrows Mansion setting has been meticulously reconstructed, maintaining the oppressive feel of the classic game.

Gameplay

Clock Tower: Remake Demo replaces the point-and-click interface with a side-scrolling platformer-like gameplay. The protagonist frequently falls, a mechanic that may seem exaggerated and even comical. The controls are limited to the keyboard, with no option to remap keys or use a joystick. The demo is quite short and focuses more on escaping Scissorman rather than the original Clock Tower‘s traditional hiding mechanics.

Plot

The plot is very simple. For those who don’t already know it, it tells of Jennifer, this young girl adopted by the Barrows and taken together with other guys to their mansion, lost in the woods. But soon, everyone starts dying and Jennifer discovers that a killer is slaughtering the poor boys.

All that remains is to explore the mansion to find an escape route…

Trivia

  • Clock Tower: Remake Demo was developed using Unreal Engine. Judging by the developer’s previous projects, it is likely built on version 4 of the engine.
  • The original Clock Tower was released exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom in 1995 and never received an official Western release. The game takes place in Barrows Mansion, where protagonist Jennifer Simpson must survive and escape from the killer Scissorman. Unlike other horror games of its time, Clock Tower use a point-and-click system instead of direct controls, heightening the sense of helplessness. The game features multiple endings, depending on the player’s choices and actions during their escape. Clock Tower influenced future horror titles such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, with its emphasis on fleeing rather than combat. Although it was never officially released in the West, fans translated the game, making it accessible to a wider audience.
  • The games’ antagonist, Scissorman, was inspired by Phenomena (1985), a horror film by Dario Argento starring Jennifer Connelly. The villain resembles the film’s deformed killer, who also wields a giant pair of scissors.
