Christmas Present Hunt is a short, casual indie puzzle game set on a Christmas morning, when the protagonist’s parents hide five presents around the house and backyard for her to find and return to the tree. It was developed by sammyalis and initially released on January 12, 2017.
The game features exploration-based challenges, point-and-click interaction, and pleasant 16-bit-style 2D retro visuals, reminiscent of titles like The Witch’s House and Ao Oni, though without any horror elements. Quite the opposite, in fact — everything here is calm and cozy.
Published by sammyalis themselves and available for free on Windows, Christmas Present Hunt is a short, relaxing and positive experience that may take a little under 30 minutes to complete. It’s a nice pick for a light distraction wrapped in the warm atmosphere of the best time of the year.

Gameplay
Christmas Present Hunt is a 2D exploration and puzzle-solving game built around a single objective: finding five presents hidden throughout the house and backyard, then returning them to the Christmas tree. Progression is fully linear and depends on collecting and properly using the items scattered around the environment.
Gameplay is point-and-click based, allowing the protagonist to move and interact with objects simply by clicking on them. The player must explore the indoor rooms, the attic, the outdoor shed, and the snow-covered yard, gathering tools that grant access to new areas or solve small environmental challenges.
The game uses a simple inventory, combination, and item-crafting logic. Examples include using kitchen tongs to reach an object stuck in the sink; mixing bread and seeds to attract a bird and retrieve a key from its nest; using snow gloves to dig out a frozen present; improvising handles for a bucket; or pouring hot cocoa to melt the ice blocking a container.
Most puzzles involve environmental observation, contextual item use, and small riddles, such as deriving a safe’s passcode from the number and order of books on a shelf. Although the interface displays stats like HP and menu options for “Weapons” and “Armor,” these elements are unused in the game and likely remain from the engine’s (RPG Maker MV) default template.
After finding all five presents — hidden both indoors and outdoors — the protagonist returns to the main room to complete the hunt and watch the brief ending sequence. The average playtime is around 25 to 30 minutes, depending on the player’s familiarity with exploration and puzzle games.
