Overview
Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders is the official Heretic update that contains the first there original episodes, City of the Damned, Hell’s Maw and The Dome of D’Sparil, plus two new ones: The Ossuary, and The Stagnant Demesne. It was distributed by id Software in 1996 and we have it here available to be played online.
Heretic, on its turn, is a medieval fantasy first person shooter video game developed by Raven Software and released in 23rd December 1994. Using the power of a modified Doom engine, Heretic was one of the first first-person games to feature a usable item inventory, the ability to look up and down and multiple gib objects that spawned when a character suffered a death by extreme force or heat. This classic FPS also has randomized ambient sound effects, such as water dripping, evil laughters, distantly ringing bells and chains rattling, becoming a success that spawned two sequels, Hexen: Beyond Heretic and Heretic II.
Plot
D’Sparil, Korax, and Eidolon, the three demonic brothers known as the Serpent Riders, have used their powerful magic to possess seven kings of Parthoris, turning them into mindless puppets and corrupting their armies. The Sidhe elves resist this magic and where declared heretics by the Serpent Riders, who, thus, waged war against them. These elves were forced to take a drastic measure to sever the natural power of the kings destroying them and their armies, but at the cost of weakening their own power, giving the Serpent riders an advantage to slay the elders. While the Sidhe retreat, one elf sets off on a quest of vengeance against the weakest of the three Serpent Riders, D’Sparil, and must fight hordes of the undead and other deadly monsters.
